Vom 1. bis zum 3. Juli 1863 kämpften bei Gettysburg die Armee der Nordstaaten gegen den Süden. Die Verluste betrugen rund 50.000 Mann. Am Ende verlor der Süden die Chance, den Krieg zu gewinnen.

The Battle of Gettysburg, fought over three hot summer days, from July 1 to July 3, 1863, is considered the most important engagement of the American Civil War. The South lost the battle—and many men—and it marked a turning point in the bloody war that left the South mostly on the defensive.

In the summer of 1863, Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee launched his second invasion of the Northern states. Forces collided at the crossroads town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania from July 1-3, 1863.  It resulted in an estimated 51,000 casualties on both sides, the bloodiest single battle of the entire war.
